The Sale Botanic Gardens are located as part of the Lake Guthridge Parklands precinct, surrounding Lake Guthridge in the centre of Sale. The Sale Botanic Gardens originated in 1860 when approx. 20 hectares of land was set aside as a botanic garden. Twenty four years later, additional swampy land, now Lake Guthridge, was included in the site. Today the Gardens occupy just over 5 hectares. The dedicated Friends Group was established around 1999 to assist with the promotion and activation of the Gardens. Over the past 15 years projects have included:

• Annual Teddy Bear Picnics for Prep students

• Community Fun Days

• Grow the Gardens Day

• Monthly Gardening Days (2nd Thursday of each month 10am-12pm)
