Alpine National Park - Free or Low Cost Camp

The rolling hills of Heyfield, Licola and Dargo give little indication of the spectacular gorges that dissect the south-east corner of the Alpine National Park. Moroka and Bryces Gorge hide impressive waterfalls, while Mount Howitt, the Wonnangatta Valley and Tali Karng make for scenic settings to cross-country skiing, hiking, horse riding, deer hunting and four-wheel driving adventures.

The Wellington River has 13 numbered campsites just north of Licola on the Tamboritha Road. Sites offer facilities such as toilets, fire places and picnic tables. There is also camping at Moroka Bridge Camping Area, Miller's Hut Camping Area (4wd only), Barkly River Camping Area (Avon-Mt Hendrick Reserve), Dargo Camping Area, Dargo Campgrounds (Italian Flat) Dargo Hotel (Limited Times), Talbotville Camping Area (4wd only), Grant Camping Area (Dargo High Plains Rd Grant), Black Snake Creek Camping Area (Crooked River - Dargo), Bullock Flat Camping Area (Crooked River Rd), and Eaglevale Camping Area (4wd only).

Please note: Not all parks or campgrounds allow campfires. Make sure you check the park signs in the campground before you light a campfire.
