The Maffra Recreation Reserve stands as a premier regional hub for sport, agriculture, and community events. Managed by a dedicated local Committee of Management on behalf of the Wellington Shire Council, the reserve is more than just an open space—it is a vital gathering point that fosters connection, wellbeing, and regional pride.
With premium amenities ranging from an irrigated main oval and freshly redeveloped netball facilities to a versatile post-mounted exhibition dome and expansive pavilion spaces, the reserve serves as a dynamic year-round home for a wide variety of passionate community groups.
The beating heart of the reserve is the diverse collection of clubs and associations that utilize the facilities. From weekend sport to major annual festivals, these groups showcase the community spirit of Maffra.
Home of the mighty Eagles, the club brings local families together from autumn through to spring. Utilizing the newly upgraded, modern netball courts (featuring advanced player amenities, lighting, and safety fencing) and the premium turf of the main oval, the club provides an inclusive environment for junior and senior players to thrive.
Bringing the country to the town, the Agricultural Society hosts the iconic annual Maffra Show each October. The reserve transforms into a bustling exhibition space featuring prime livestock displays, thrilling equestrian competitions, and family entertainment. The society's dedicated post-mounted event shelter ensures a vibrant, all-weather food and wine court experience for thousands of visitors.
Drawing dog lovers from right across the region, the reserve regularly plays host to major regional dog shows and agility trials. The lush, expansively shaded lawns provide the perfect country setting for canine training, socialization, and competitive events.
Celebrating the deep equestrian roots of the Gippsland region, the reserve is equipped with a dedicated harness track and specialized rooms, supporting both structured trotting events and casual twilight pleasure rides.
The reserve's facilities offer vital gathering spaces for a broad range of community organizations, including the Macmillan Rockhounds, local performing arts networks like Maffra Dramatics, the Country Women’s Association (CWA), and various emergency services groups. With secure on-site storage and accessible meeting rooms, the venue supports lifelong hobbies, cultural expressions, and volunteer networks alike.
As a shared precinct, the Maffra Recreation Reserve Committee of Management works side-by-side with our user groups to continuously improve accessibility, pave safer thoroughfares, and maintain elite turf standards. We thank all our incredible local volunteers who dedicate their time to keeping the reserve looking its absolute best for residents and visitors.
