A small, agricultural town set between Traralgon and Sale on the banks of the Latrobe River, Rosedale places a premium on the kinds of cafes, local produce purveyors and vintage shops you're usually likely to see much closer to Melbourne.
Be sure to arrive on an empty stomach, as Rosedale is filled with excellent cafes, an amazing bakery and other stores that stock some of Gippsland's best local produce.
Find a holiday read in an eclectic bookstore, fossick through bric-a-brac collections or discover pottery and sculptures made by local artists. Get a sense of local history by completing the Heritage Walk from Willow Park Reserve, taking in highlights like the Mechanics Institute and St Mark's Church. Head further afield, taking in the lush scenery, historic features and old homesteads that dot the surrounding countryside. Or take some fragrant time out in the Victorian Rose Gardens, and take a snap of the life size statue of racehorse Patrobas, who was a three-year-old colt that won the Melbourne Cup in 1915.
The Rosedale Country Market takes place on the second Sunday of the month showcases local art, craft, produce and used goods. The market is located at the Prince Street Reserve.
